Puerto Varas
About as German as Trelew is Welsh, Puerto Varas is a pleasant, if touristy, lakeside town with views across to the volcano Osorno.
I arrived at just the right time to take advantage of a beer festival, taking place just across the tracks from the railway station. Ten or so breweries, all of which were small local outfits, I think, were selling a good variety of beers. Anticuchos and 'completos' (hot-dogs smothered in various sauces) were popular. People sat around on the edge of the platforms and along the grass banks.
