Across India by Train

I flew in to Mumbai, with the idea to cross from the Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal overland - using the renowned train system as far as possible.

I travelled to most of the places I want to, and trains took me most of the way - with just a few short road journeys by taxi, auto-rickshaw or jeep.

The railway system is impressive in its complexity, and although it can hardly be described as modern or fast, it was broadly efficient, reasonably comfortable and sufficiently on-time (at least for my undemanding tourist requirements).
